Personal:  My name is  Volker 'Gus' Buchwald and I live in Teisendorf, a small rural community in Upper-Bavaria about  100 kms south-east of Munich. This lovely landscape, the so-called 'Rupertiwinkl', is a tourist region situated close to the Austrian border, right at the northern edge of the Alps.  Any comments are appreciated! I was born in 1946, studied pedagogics and I am presently working as a teacher at the Teisendorf Secondary School.. Since 1960 my favorite hobby has been Amateur Radio.  At the age of 14 I began listening to shortwave with an old  'Echophone' receiver.

Licensed in 1967 as  DJ8QP  I started with US-HF- surplus. Soon interests changed to VHF,  with which I spent about 20 years. This time I worked via tropo, Es and aurora 35 countries, 3 continents and 153 grids. Then I came back to the roots. DXing on the HF-bands has ever since interested me very much as well as chasing  and  activating  IOTA-islands  and working on TOPBAND.  I'm member of the the German hamclub (DARC), the Bavarian-Contest-Club (BCC), the German-DX-Foundation (GDXF) and the German-Arabic circle of friends (DAFK).

Since April 2000  I've been holding the educational call DN1MQP  which allows everyone to train for hamradio under my supervision.

Furthermore, my wife Margit and I like to travel to exciting spots , like islands and desert regions in Tunisia  (3V8), Morocco (CN8), Algeria (7X), and Libya (5A) and ...

The  Station: Main Radio Interests: My radio station consists of a small radio room and a 25m tiltover telescopic  tower with different aerials for all HF-bands. Collecting  countries and zones on all HF bands DXCC hunting, breaking pileups, CW, SSB, RTTY Chasing IOTA-islands << Up, Up and....  with energetic help of Rudi (DL5MEV) Fishing out week signals on TOPBAND Working with the club station DL0TU
